Element 3
Title: Media Advertising
Description:
Funds for advertising may be utilized in a variety of productive ways including media purchases and production for television, coordinated radio campaigns, print advertising, and worthy opportunities that arise from time to time.

Radio advertising provides a demographic/geographic outreach promoting the Stanley area’s attractions and activities for tourists throughout the various seasons. Airtime is purchased on selected stations in the Treasure Valley, Eastern Oregon, McCall/Cascade, SW Idaho, Magic Valley, Wood River Valley, Eastern Idaho, and Salmon River valley. Ads promote shoulder season activities, winter opportunities, steelhead fishing, early summer attractions, chamber/community events, fall colors and other attractions. Radio monies also support the statewide NPR program “Music from Stanley,” now in its fifth year, creating additional visibility. This Saturday afternoon broadcast offers a series of shows featuring Idaho musicians recorded live, for rebroadcast during winter months across Idaho, significantly increasing visibility for local events and recreation opportunities. Shows are recorded every Sunday afternoon throughout the summer, attracting visitors to the Stanley area for the weekend.

The chamber may produce and broadcast thirty-second and ninety-second television commercials in selected markets in the Wood River Valley, McCall/Cascade markets and other areas as needed. Television provides the chamber a targeted opportunity to reach tourists who are already visiting Idaho, many lodging in area hotels, motels, and rentals. Programming is widely viewed by residents in these areas due to local content, and encourages ‘sidetrips’ to the Stanley Basin for an extended Idaho vacation.

Display advertising is purchased for in-room guest directories throughout lodging establishments in the Wood River Valley. Additional print advertisements may include regional newspapers, directory advertising of special activities and seasonal opportunities, as well as recreation brochures and maps for local and out-of-area distribution.

Shoulder Season and Winter activities and promotions are critical to the success of year-round businesses in the Stanley Basin. Activities such as the Sawtooth Ski Festival, Winterfest, Stanley Dog Sled Races, and Spring steelhead fishing season draw many visitors from Region VII and elsewhere to the area for multiple-day stays. Advertising within the region is very important to the success of these endeavors, and to the local economy. Attendees from the Salmon River and Wood River Valleys fill hotels and restaurants in Stanley. Advertising for these seasonal attractions has historically proven to be successful. The SSCC encourages the Council to consider allowing advertisement for these seasonal attractions to continue.

Element 4
Title: Snowmobile Internet Promotions
Description:
This element has been highly effective over the past five years. The web sites are attractive, and have increased the number of unique visitors to our primary website. They contain pertinent, timely information and links, all updated regularly with local conditions.

In conjunction with the ITC Winter Snowmobile co-op program (www.sledtherockies.com) the chamber has advertised and promoted snowmobiling opportunities on a complementary co-op website (www.snowtracks.com). Over the years this has proven to be a highly effective combination.

ITC Requested:  $4,817.00    Total Match:  $602.00    Total Cost:  $5,419.00

Element 5
Title: Idaho Integrated Media Campaign
Description:
The Stanley-Sawtooth Chamber of Commerce believes there is tremendous value in the newspaper insert program and iBrochure programs offered by Madden Media; we therefore chose to use funds from the 2010/2011 grant award to participate, and would like to expand our participation beyond the quarter-page ad funded in the 2010 edition. The ad produced was stunning, catching the attention of Madden Media who suggested we try and move to a half-page or full-page in 2011. Additionally, the iBrochure program has statistically proven its effectiveness by generating thousands of leads.

ITC Requested:  $4,673.00    Total Match:  $584.00    Total Cost:  $5,257.00

Element 6
Title: Infonet/Website
Description:

The Chamber’s website is highly effective and requires frequent upgrades to maintain searchability, currency, and prominence. Following a bid process, the chamber selected a new website designer and hosting company for 2009 and beyond. To date the new site is producing record statistics and has been extremely well received. In addition to the maintenance/support agreement, we would like to continue to update the site and finish some website components which are not yet fully complete. These upgrades include, generally, the completion and addition of various menus, home page and page designs, downloadable maps, social media and video production, and materials important to the visitor, enhancements to the navigation system, calendar of events, recreation reports, and other improvements to meet the needs of the traveling public.

In the last twelve months the Chamber has made considerable strides in the area of Social Media and hopes to continue to develop this strategy within the upcoming grant cycle. Efforts may include but are not limited to the establishment of an agreement with the video/social media company Element 242 (or other social media specialist), the contracting of a videographer, the establishment of a presence on social media sites such as You Tube, Twitter, and others.
